Cecil Rogers felt life passing him by, so he quit middle management and became a professional sailor, drifting from one adventure to another as the tide changed under him. Riding the tide of the growing Bahamian marijuana smuggling industry, Rogers led flotillas of speedboats, participated in airplane drops, and established hashish trade routes. These experiences culminated in a pivotal role in the largest marijuana smuggling operation in San Francisco history, under the renowned , "King of Pot", Bruce Perlowin. Peppered with history and amusing anecdotes, Ride the Tide details Rogers' search for identity and offers commentary on the Bahama Islands as can be told only by one who has lived a life on the sea.
Ride The Tide adventures of a pot smuggler and tide rider eBook Cecil Rogers
I am really conflicted as to how to review this book. I'll start with the bad - the author is not a professional writer and at least the Kindle version seems to be a draft. One section is in an odd order and then you see <move these paragraphs up to before X happens>. Wor-ds ha-ve odd hy-phens in them fo-r n-o re-ason. Even 30 seconds with spell-check would have fixed it. This book is also non-fiction, so there is no neat plot with a good guy and a bad guy with a big fight at the end. Things just kind of ramble along as they happened. Here is the good: I have flown and sailed a lot of the places the author has, sometimes even near the same time as he did. We both worked in the same (LEGAL!) business selling used marine equipment. This was really fun to read. The pot industry of the late 60s to 70s era seems like paradise lost. Apparently everyone was mellow, no one was violent, the profits were huge, and the jail terms when caught were short. When the FBI finally catches up (not a real spoiler, this is in the introduction), they just ask him to please hire a lawyer and come down to the local office for a chat. Today they would have broken in at midnight, guns blazing, and maybe killed a few family pets and the grandmother.

Ride The Tide adventures of a pot smuggler and tide rider eBook Cecil Rogers Reviews
This is a fun read. Great adventures and well told. The book needs a healthy dose of proofreading. The text is filled with missing words /typos / etc.
One of those books you just can't put down. What an interesting life Cecil lived. If you enjoy adventure, sailing and the ocean, this book is for you.
This guy bounced all over the place doing these deals. I'm ready to read the boss' story in San Fran that was responsible for more pot importation than anyone in history & compare their notes on what really happened back in the day...
friggin awesome book, perfect perfect perfect
This is a very interesting book. It has typos in it and the author is not really a very good writer but the content is very interesting. Read it.
Very informative reading, thought that it would be a little more dramatic on the smuggling side of the story, but overall it was well written and a good read
A well written and very different sailing book, all about the hazards and thrills of pot smuggling on the West and East coasts of USA.. Great descriptions of islands in the Bahamas, Caribbean and elsewhere, filled with great anecdotes of wild sailing experiences, near misses, catastrophic storms and near brushes with the law... written with an ironic sense of humor.. a great read..
